Hello Fluid

We’re happy to announce initial support for Fluid. Fluid is a “site specific browser” for OS X, which allows users to create a stand alone browser for e.g. Zendesk. This means you get neat launch icon, and more interesting, we get to send you notifications on OS level, for example a Growl notification once you have a new ticket.

Setting up Fluid is really easy. Download the app, and configure it for your domain. My configuration is displayed on the left, all you need to do is to change that to your own Zendesk URL.

I use our trusty mascot Buddhy as icon for my Fluid/Zendesk browser, you can get Buddhy here.

Once I’ve launched my Fluid Zendesk instance and logged in as an agent, I get a nice icon in the dock with a badge showing my count of assigned tickets, and a Growl notification on the current Zendesk support account status.

We also Growl when you get assigned to a ticket or a new ticket gets created in Zendesk. Great fun – and  thanks to Dana Janssen for asking for Fluid support!

Perhaps one day pure envy will drive Alexander to build something similar for Windows using Prism.

This is fantastic! I'm a huge fan of Fluid and the basic "site specific browser" concept.

However, I'm not a big fan of Buddhy. Any chance we could get an OS-X-icon-sized version of the ZenDesk logo/favicon to use with Fluid?

    Hi Dan, will this do?

  • Dan Hallock

Much better than the favicon — thanks!

FWIW, 128×128 is the standard icon size for Mac OS X 10.0-10.4. (10.5 supports up to 512×512, but you don't actually see the versions over 128×128 very often). So at 50×50 this is still scaled up enough to pixelate in some places, like the Cmd-Tab bezel and the Finder preview column. For my own purposes, it's no longer enough to be distracting, so I'm happy. But if you want to go the extra mile… :-)

I want to go that extra mile! Zendesk wants to go that extra mile!

I know i'm late to the party but i prefer the Buddhy icon and the link doesn't seem to be valid anymore, any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Rex

I grabbed this (from the Zendesk footer) instead:

    Seems rather unstable on 10.5.2.

Also, you have to use the standard zendesk URL rather than a custom one – otherwise you can't seem to login.

Hi there, i just started using zendesk in fluid, however, whenever i click on a link its opening the window in a new firefox browser window, making me crazy, do you know fix for this?

  • Smeevil

    Same problem here,
Login opens in the default browser

  • http://www.etraction.co.nz Mark

Had the same problem as clare and smeevil. You will need to enter in all alternative urls into Preferences > Advanced. We use the custom url: support.etraction.co.nz so I needed to add *support.etraction.co.nz* and *etraction.zendesk.com* to my allowed urls before I could sign in.

  • Hal

AWESOME, and thanks you! Now, is there any way to change it so that the badge icon only shows open tickets, not pending ones?

  • Mike

    nice :)

  • Jake

This is totally awesome – however, one issue is that it’s not immediately apparent to me how I can get Fluid to only display tickets assigned to ME, rather than all tickets for the organization. Anyone have thoughts on that?

  • Jake

Addendum to my last comment, if it helps: tickets assigned to me are essentially a View in ZenDesk, gotten to through a bunch of URL appends like this:
    …/search?search_name=Open+tickets+assigned+to+you&sets[1][conditions][0][operator]=is&sets[1][conditions][0][source]=assignee_id&sets[1][conditions][0][value][0]=########&sets[1][conditions][1][operator]=is&sets[1][conditions][1][source]=status_id&sets[1][conditions][1][value][0]=1

I am trying to figure out how to add Growl support to my Fluid Zendesk app, anybody know where I can find it.

  • http://www.zendesk.com Zendesk

Hey Mike, sorry for the delay on this. It should just work if you have Growl installed and started. Try it out and let us know if you’re still having trouble.

  • http://virtualnerd.com Josh Salcman

For folks having trouble with logging in (i.e., it opens in FF or other default browser), there’s a simple fix. After you create your Fluid app, launch it, then go to its preferences. Under the “Advanced” section, choose “Allow browsing to any URL”. There’s probably a way to be more specific about what to allow, but I didn’t take the time to figure it out. If someone else would care to enlighten me/us, that would be much appreciated.

  • Rachelp

    Thanks Josh! That did!

  • Nicol

So there is a badge that appears on the Fluid app icon when I get a ticket but the badge does not go away when the queue is completely empty of any tickets. Any ideas?

  • Chris

    Great integration ! thanks !

This doesn’t actually appear to work anymore. Any chance Zendesk will be fixed to load in fluid?

  • http://www.zendesk.com/ Zengage Editor

    Hi Zachary,
Unfortunately, due to new security restrictions
around the Zendesk application, we won’t be able to continue supporting
the creation of a Zendesk app via Fluid.

  • Dan

Ah, unfortunate, just ran into this too. I use Fluid for everything that doesn’t have a native desktop app.

For those wondering, ZenDesk still works fine in Fluid, it probably just doesn’t have any of the native integrations (badges, notifications) being published to it anymore.
