Tip of the week: unraveling host-mapping for Zendesk

You may have already taken a look at all of the different ways you can customize Zendesk to better match the look and feel of your brand. Our newest tip of the week focuses on one of the most basic steps towards creating a seamless customer experience: customizing the URL of your Zendesk.

When you first begin your Zendesk subscription, your Zendesk web portal is some variation of mycompany.zendesk.com. Zendesk offers a feature to subscribers of our Regular, Plus+, and Enterprise plans called host-mapping that gives you the option to create your own branded URL for customers accessing your Zendesk.

For example, when Mondo Cameras signed up for Zendesk, the URL to their web portal was initially mondocameras.zendesk.com. However, they easily changed the URL to support.mondocameras.com to better match the URL of their main website.

This is really a very helpful step by step guide.  Pretty sure your client will benefit a lot and will save a lot of time re-configuring their url’s.

agree that this was a most-helpful post.  We switched over to a nicely host-mapped support URL and emails, and it’s working well.

The ONLY word of caution I’d throw out there is “be careful when and how you do this”.  Any previously posted links to posts, questions, etc. will have the old URL, which, unless you do some very fancy http rewrites on your domain end, will stop working.  Prepare to edit your links or to be a DNS/htaccess ace if you have lots of links to your old host mapping.

Maybe ZD staff has a good solution I am unaware of?!
