Question
How do I exclude a help center page from being indexed by Google?
Answer
There are multiple ways that you can prevent a help center content from appearing in external search engine results such as Google.
- Add a no-index tag to the help center theme. This will prevent all pages from being indexed and appearing in search results, rather than only one page.
- Restrict the article to a specific subset of users through user segments in Guide, such as signed-in users.
- Temporarily exclude content through Google Search Console. See below for more detailed information on this method.
You can request a temporary exclusion in Google Search Console. You will need to have your help center connected as a property in Google Search Console in order to proceed.
To temporarily exclude a specific page from being indexed by Google, utilize the Removals feature available in your Google Search Console account. Verify your account with Google Search Console by adding a meta tag to the Header of the help center, as described here.
Once your account has been verified, open the Removals tab and select New Request.
From the Removals page, enter the URL that you wish to remove and select Next.
