The Mashable Awards garners hundreds of thousands of nominations from its international community each year in 25 categories. Last year, the competition drew more than 440,000 nominations with more than 70,000 nominees and 780,000 final votes.
Yeah, we know what your wondering: that is a crazy amount of nominations. How on earth are those numbers then whittled down to 25 categories and approximately 50 winners?

Nominations Process: Nominations began on Sept. 27th and wrap up Nov. 29th. During this time you can nominate an organization every day until Nov. 29th, with the official cut off happening right around midnight. So bookmark the page, set up an alert, and remember to vote every day.
Final Voting Round: Once all the nominations have been tallied, the top 5 nominees in each category are entered into the final voting round which runs from Dec. 1st through Dec. 15th.
Winners: Once all of the votes are tallied, the winners are announced on Jan. 6, 2011 via live web cast from the Mashable Awards Gala, held this year in fabulous Las Vegas, NV.
